MP3 Encoder install problem
« on: February 20, 2010, 02:24:10 pm »

I just downloaded the 30 day free trial. So far so good until I tried to change the encoder to MP3 I get the following error message:

Invalid package file. Cannot continue.
http://www.musicex.com/cgi-bin/redirects/MC/14/redirect.pl?type=mp3Encoder&prodname=MediaCenter&version=14.0.140

Upon closing that window, another 'Confirm Action' window follows:

The MP3 encoder is not installed on the system.
Do you want to download and install it now?

upon clicking 'YES', MC attempts to download, but returns the following 'Information Window':

Invalid package file. Cannot continue.
http://www.musicex.com/cgi-bin/redirects/MC/14/redirect.pl?type=mp3Encoder&prodname=MediaCenter&version=14.0.140

I retried after making sure to turn off my firewall and AVG resident shield with no luck there either. I'm on XP Pro Dell 1710 purchased less than a year ago.

Suggestions? Can I manually install the lame codec in the plugins folder? If so, where do I get it?

I noticed MC wouldn't open amazon or audible and so I checked IE (I pretty much only use Firefox.) It was having problems detecting proxy as well. I remembered I had this problem in IE a couple of days ago and after using the delete all temp files, cookies etc., it had started working. This time I started with just the temp files. Bingo, access in both IE and MC. I'm happy to have MC working, but can anybody make a guess as to what is going on? Does this sound like browser hijacking?
