video with yellow tint with K-Lite Mega
« on: February 21, 2010, 01:30:05 pm »

Hi!

After installation of K-lite Mega codec pack 5.7.0 most videos (xvid, divx) played by Media Center have strong yellow tint, but some files play OK. *.mp4 files don't play at all, I get error message about not recognized media type with code=0x80040240.
Other players (windows media player, media player classic) are working OK.

Is there some fix for this?

Most people round here use CCCP with no problems
http://www.cccp-project.net/

You might want to try that as a quick and easy fix?

I just installed mega v5.7 and I'm having no problems.

That's the point. Other players are working OK, on other computer MC 14 also is OK but on my laptop I get something like on attached images. Reinstalling K-Lite or installing suggested codec pack didn't help.
I've found that disabling some hardware acceleration in windows screen properties fixes problem (but generates other).

Could you post your DirectShow graphs from both PCs?

(right-click the display during playback and select "DirectShow Filters > Copy graph info to clipboard")

K-Lite and other "Mega Packs" are asking for trouble. They have many problems. Although they work for some, they frequently wreak havoc with many computers. Uninstalling them leaves many remnants behind that continue to cause issues.

CCCP is designed specifically to avoid damaging computers (its one of the design goals) and can easily be removed completely if needed. I would suggest removing ALL "codec packs" from your computer and reboot. Then use CCCP Insurgent to clean up any junk left behind (if any). Then install CCCP. It will likely play almost anything you throw at it.

I've uninstalled all codecs I can find. When I tried to play some avi file Media Center automaticaly downloaded some version of FFDShow. Result was the same (yellow tint). Installing CCCP didn't helped also.

Did you use CCCP Insurgent? If you haven't already, I suggest you follow the CCCP Troubleshooting Guide.

Just in case, have you by any chance set the Hue value accidentally?  Try right-click during playback and choose "Color Controls...", and reset.

My guess is that some setting in ffdshow was changed and that is causing the issue. It is likely being retained even after uninstalling so the next time you download, the result is the same. Here is what I suggest:

1. Remove all Codec Packs from your computer.
2. Remove any FFDshow "codecs" as well.
3. Reboot.
4. Read the CCCP troubleshooting guide as suggested.
5. Use CCCP Insurgent to clean up the computer.
6. Reboot.
7. Install a fresh copy of CCCP.

This is ffdshow. I've uninstalled ffdshow and installed xvid, Media Center plays avi and mp4 files OK.

Had a feeling. Glad you worked it out.

In case you ever want to resolve it, use the steps I provided, but it needs one change: When installing CCCP there is an option to reset all settings for FFDShow. Make sure it is checked off and it should fix the tint problem.

You could also probably fix it "by hand". When playing a video in MC right click and select Filters->FFDShow Video Decoder. Make sure all the check boxes on the left hand side are unchecked. That is the default. I'm guessing you have post processing checked and the hue, etc is non standard.
