I've ordered a new pc (Revo R3610).  I've installed the trial version of J River for my main pc and it looks fantastic.  However, I have lots installed on my main one and wondered if I need to install the same on the Revo too?  For instance, will J River play all video files (mkv especially) natively or do I have to install CCCP or similar first? 

I will be playing wav, FLAC and WMA Lossless audio files and any number of different video files but mainly mkv, avi and video (vob).

you tested mc 14 i presume?
i would install cccp with mc 14. that is enough to play the videos (like mkv).

Yes MC 14, that's great thank you.  So the MC doesn't have an internal decoder for mkv files?

As I understand it MKV like AVI is a container format which can contain different forms of data such as DivX/XVid/Mpeg2

A container or wrapper format is a meta-file format whose specification describes how data and meta-data is stored (not coded)

The decoders are for XviD/DivX.  As these are continuously evolving it makes little sense for MC to have the decoders integrated.  Although it can confuse users on how to get these setup initially.  Installing CCCP resolves most issues.
