would pay $25 just to read the forum.

My goal:Take home net. and connect to home surround sys and 32" TV.
(to play all types of media)

Done:
Found MJ and Forum. (Great software and forum)
Removed my ATI 7200 and TV Wonder and replaced with ATI All In Wonder 7500 w/remote.
(put the 7200 and tv wonder on the shelf with my old all in wonder boards)

Everything works GREAT!

My wife says "The visulizations on the 32" TV are fantastic"

Couple of small questions:
Slide Show:
Since I have tons of pics (jpeg) taken over the years and arranged in dirs by date. In some future vers could you make an entry in the library for them.

Best format to rip to mp3 or WMA ? Default in MJ is WMA.
(Everything on my hard drives is mp3, but I have around 200 cds to rip)

Playing midis on surround have hissing coming from rear speakers?

MJ Tv pic fine on pc but black on TV ?

ATI tells you not to put the RF receiver close to monitor or cpu.
Ya right, they only give you 1 1/2 feet of line.
If I extend the USB cable, will this create me any problems?

Griff - Greetings and welcome. Your opening line made me laugh out loud. :-)

My take (for what they're worth) on a couple of your questions...

*   I thought Slide Show would process directories of pictures on your hard drive once yo point it to the right place? Maybe I'm wrong but check it out.

*   Best format for ripping - if you have disk space then use APE. You only need to do it once and you have a perfect CD copy on your system. Otherwise I use MP3 (because it's more or less the standard) and I rip VBR at Medium / High. I do this because I use a laptop so I'm disk space challenged.

Black on TV could be just a loose cable.

TV's are sometimes fussy about resolution.  Try 800 X 600.  This can be set with a right click on the screen and can be different for full screen vs windowed mode.

I have the ATI rf receiver under the monitor (the monitor is on a little shelf) and it works quite well from pretty much all over the house.  Anyway extending the cable should not be a problem either


The picture black on the tv may have something to do with how you've set the primary surface...I have a vague memory about something like that happening to me too.. Unfortunately my system with the ATI AIW 7500 is undergoing surgery right now, so I can't test it for you

Yes, just to confirm to see tv both on the monitor and on the video out ( external tv or ntsc monitor), you need to have both display set as primary. That has the side effect of limiting the "actual" resolution of your main pc display, altough you still have the full resolution in your virtual desktop (you can scroll by moving your mouse to the edge)

I'd say use mp3 over wma.
Best to encode for quality use VBR with lame 3.92

I personally use cbr at 192 but that's just cause I'm stuck in my ways. I know vbr is better just old hobbits dying hard type thing

Changing it to primary worked.
I did extend the usb cable and the remote works perfect now.
(had trouble with dbl clicks befor. On the opposite side of the wall with all my computer equip. is all the sterio equip.)

From what I see you can play a dir and its sub dirs.What I would like is to be able to play a specfic date without configuring. Like Visulizations, you can cycle all or pick a specfic visulization.

Hi Griff,

Welcome to the MJ club.  This is great software.  A few enhancement and fixes will make it a perfect software.

I've ripped a few hundred CDs, and also re-rip some of my favorite CDs afer I finally switch completely to MJ- from Realone (Rip off: I've declined subscription, and they still charge you, and send you software that you decline to buy) and MusicMatch (still a good jukebox).

But MJ is much more fun.  The track visualization uses HTML, and you can design your own.  Very fun.  Can also add visualization.


As for the format, I use MP3.  Like many MJ users, I choose VBR format.  I play it over a high-end HiFi system, and it sound very good.

My recommendation if you enjoy listening a lot of CDs:

a) Get a very large harddisk.  A 120GB disk cost $250 USD only
b) Get a very good sound card.  I use the CREATIVE Extigy, and it is perfect.
c) Rip with the best quality.  The wait is worth it.  The disk space used is worth it.
