Problems with v8
« on: June 27, 2002, 09:29:54 pm »

I installed MJv8 last night and experienced multiple system lockups when running MJ. I uninstalled it and reinstalled v7 and it is running flawlessly again. I think I will wait for a later version of v8 before trying it again. It looks like it will be an outstanding program.

A little more info would be helpfull.  Get your system info, (Help/System Info...  - Copy to Clipboard) and post it here.
Also, it sometimes helps to reboot after installing v8.

Microsoft Windows 98 4.10.1998
I shut down all programs and installed MJ. I then shut down my computer and restarted it a minute or so later. My System locked up several times as I was trying to rip some CD's. The mouse would work, but nothing else would. I rebooted each time to get it going again.
MJ v7.0.173 has always run flawlessly. Below is a list of my equipment:

Clean install using Full OEM
IE 5 5.50.4807.2300
GenuineIntel 700Mhz Pentium(r) III Processor Intel MMX(TM) Technology
ASUS P3B-F Motherboard
256MB RAM

Windows-managed swap file on drive C (1165MB free)
Available space on drive C: 1165MB of 3170MB (FAT32)
Available space on drive D: 1193MB of 2990MB (FAT32)
Available space on drive E: 762MB of 3594MB (FAT32)
Available space on drive F: 3902MB of 9764MB (FAT32)
Creative AWE-64 Sound Blaster

It might not be locked.  MP3 encoding uses the machine's highest priority.  Try waiting.

You can turn off simultaneous rip and encode.

JimH "MP3 encoding uses the machine's highest priority"

Is there a way to change this? I would like to surf the internet while it rips a CD

Simultaneous rip & encode has been off. It is definately locking up.
The HD light shows no activity and it doesn't matter how long I wait.
I uninstalled v8 and put v7 back on. Now any time I try to use the CD burner for anything it locks up on me using various programs like Nero or Clone CD.
Luckily I did a drive copy onto another HD 5 days ago before I installed v8. It is running fine. If I don't find out how to repair the damage that v8 did to my HD, I will restore my backup drive onto the main drive. I will check back before I do anything.

Not sure what caused the problem. The only programs I have installed last week were Creative Playcenter 2, MJ v8 and upgraded Media Player.
I re-installed MJ v7.0.173 and this time I set it to 'capture file types on start'. I was able to burn a CD with no problems. Not sure if this was related to problem. I wanted to get back to MJ v7.2.280 but I couldn't find it to download since v8 came out. I ended up restoring C and D drive from a HD backup I did a few days ago (before the v8 install)and after doing a few minor updates everything is back to normal and working fine with v7.2.280.

David,
You have something mysterious going on.  I can only guess.

To tell us more about your system, do MJ Help/Copy System Info and then paste it here.

You might take a look at this thread:

http://www.musicex.com/cgi-bin/interact/NeoBoard.pl?Action=ShowPost&Board=inter&Post=11530&BoardIdle=7&SortingBy=0&BoardOrder=Descend&Page=0

I also see that you have an Nvidia card.  There are known freezing problems with some releases of their drivers.  Try a search at google.

It would be nice to nail this down.  Anything you can tell us would be appreciated.

I started MJ v7.2.280 and went to Help/System Info and this is what I found:
   Performance Test:
Refresh Time: 880 ms

Resource Info:
System resource: 44
GDI resource: 66
User resource: 44

CPU Info:
Number of CPUs: 1
Type: Genuine Intel Pentium III
Speed: 702 MHz
MMX Support: YES

Memory Info:
Memory Load: 40%
Total Physical Memory: 261 MB
Free Physical Memory: 156 MB

OS Info:
Type: Microsoft Windows 98

Misc Info:
Internet Explorer 5.50.4807.2300

My system has been very dependable. Don't know if it was a coincidence that things went gunny bag about the same time that I installed MJ v8. It has been running all day and I burned several CD's with no problems since I did the HD backup restore. I will check on the Nvida driver and see if an update is available and will look at the thread.
                                          Thanks
