It's a pain to have to bump this up every hour or so.  No bugs?

So it's ready for CNET?  It better be because we are really going to step on the gas this time.  We'll be hollering about MJ 8.0 all over the place!

I only have one issue and it is very minor.
MJ no longer starts up behind the current window (that's a good thing) but when MJ starts now, my toolbar, which is on "autohide", is stuck behind MJ until I reach under the window and click it. After that it works normally.

Gimme a chance to see if this build helps my ASF problems.  I noticed that in the notes it said:

2. Fixed: Media Jukebox was not working well with external applications for playback.

I assume that MJ uses WMP for playing the ASF files, maybe this fix takes care of my problem.

phatrabt,
Your MJ problems may have to do with what MJ assumes about video vs. audio for the file.  We have to guess because MS won't tell us (long story), so our guess may be wrong.  If you can rename the files to something else, you may be able to convince MJ to do it your way.

I can't make it cry 'UNCLE'. Are you guys sure you're ready for PRIME TIME?

BTW - What the Hell are the beta testers gonna do now that this is almost a done deal? Interact with family members , or something? I wish I could remember my kids names...

We're still beta testing v8?!? I packed up my stuff and went home weeks ago. If I had only known..I would have posted more of my bugs. I've been doing more of this lately:

v8 is still very very good despite the minor issues I have...

Now when are you guys gonna demo it on TSS? Show everyone what this can do!!

The local paper in my area (Mankato Free Press) may write an article on my sound system. I'll mention Media Jukebox for ya guys if the guy ever calls me back soon.

I've been holding of posting for a few days trying to narrow down the source(s) of my problems but after seeing this post decided that I'd better speak now.

I'm running MJ on a network.  The data and database are held on an old P233MMX with 256Meg of RAM running Win2000 Server and a 3 disk RAID-5 array.  This box has no sound card.  My main workstation is a dual 1Gig PIII with 1.5Gig of RAM running Win200 Pro.  I rip all my CDs straight to the server on the dual PIII box in ape format.  There is also another PIII 500 running Win98SE on the network (kid's PC).  All network connections are 100mbps full duplex.

The ultimate aim is to replace the high-end CD player with a high-end DAC fed by a laptop plugged into the network as my primary audio source.  The added bonus is every PC on the network becomes a high quality audio source.

Now, the problems:

1. Cannot rip the last track from audio CDs that include multimedia content.  I have to rip these separately using Siren.

2. If I am in the Media Library, put a CD in the rive and press "Rip CD", nothing happens.  I have to manually select the drive in the tree view and then hit "Rip CD".

3. Cannot rip and play music simultaneously on the same box.  I can play music on one box and rip from another without a problem but when ever I try to rip and play on the one box, every 3-4 tracks (ripped) everything stops for a few seconds (all network and CPU activity), then the player shows "Buffering..." and finally play resumes.  This only seems to happen when ripping to the file server.

4. Simultaneous playing and ripping is generally not very robust even when ripping locally.  Occasionally, the music is interupted by a loud buzz for several seconds while connecting to CDDB.  It's also prone to crashing if I do some library maintenance at the same time.

5. I'm having ripping performance problems.  Given the constant stream of version updates, I can't say with any certainty which version they were introduced by.  Up until last weekend, I was consistently ripping to the server with simultaneous encoding at 7-8X.  Then, on Sunday I got a sudden improvement to 12-13X.  On Monday it took a turn for the worse which continues till now.  Whereas previously, the drive would spin fairly consistently throughout the whole process it is now constantly stopping and starting.  It momentarilly hits 7-9X then everything stops and MJ hangs.  Then it starts again and after doing this a few times eventually settles down at about 1-3X but still continuing to stop and start.  I've tried different drives both SCSI and IDE as well as doing it all locally but the problem persists.  I even uninstalled and deleted all traces of MJ and reinstalled afresh.  The only clue is that the ripping window now seems to indicate that encoding is happening trully simultaneously.  IE. there used to be a brief "Encoding.." message against a track as the next one starts ripping.  This no longer appears.

None of the above problems seem to be caused by any obvious CPU or network resource issues.  The dual PIII rarely goes above 10% CPU during ripping/encoding.  The file server doesn't work up a sweat eiher with nothing to do other than calculate parity bits on the RAID-5.  At 100mbps full duplex, the network should have heaps of capacity also.

Apart from the above niggling issues, I'm rapt in your product.  Hope you can help solve these little annoyances.

A little thing, but a first impression for a new user: the buttons on the top menu bars are still starting up uncolored when using no skin in Mega-Me.

No go.  I tried renaming them but they did the same thing.  I'm gonna do an OS reload next week and see what happens.  It's about time I cleaned some of the junk out...

I've had this happen several times since installing 314:

MEDIA JUKEBOX caused a general protection fault

but I'm having a hard time pinning it down.  One time I was checking out some of my settings prior to encoding, when I switched from the change Encoder dialog to the Options dialog then back to the main Encoder window MJ crashed.  This last time I tried to direct copy a CD and got a message window telling me that I couldn't do a direct copy so I clicked OK and clicked on Media files and MJ blew up.

Some other nitty bugs.

I don't know if this has any bearing but the CD I was trying to copy was a CD-RW that I had burned earlier (tired of making coasters, so I thot I would try burning with the RW then if everything checked out I'd just copy it over to a CDR).  At any rate, after burning the RW when I placed it in my CD reader MJ would not recognize it.  I kept trying to refresh it and re-inserting the CD but no luck, no track listing showed up.  I started up Explorer and logged onto CD drive then right clicked the first track to start play and MJ started playing the track but still no listings for the CD.  Rebooted and started MJ, this time it read the CD ok.

Sometimes I forget that MJ takes whatever is selected in the Tree list as the object for whatever Tool you select.  So I was planning to convert some wave files but I selected Convert before I moved to the Album I wanted to process.  When I did this Media Files was selected and I couldn't cancel the process, so I had to ctl-alt-del to stop MJ from trying to process all my files for conversion.

Also, under the Converter settings there's an option output the converted files to a base directory and a button to apply the Artist/Album rule to the new files.  Generally, I just use Artist for my directory rule it would be nice to be able to apply directory rule of your choice in this dialog.

I've burnt several CDs over the last few builds but the CD-Text is not being written corectly.  I've double checked that the artist and album info is correct before burning the CD yet when I read the CD it shows the album title as being "artist - album" and unknown for the artist.

I got a cool bug.
I selected all my songs and chose properties, it then started reading the songs (1 of 7000 etc) and I went back to a different program.
When I then went back to Media Jukebox the box that tells me the status isn't visible anywhere so I cant see whats happening. If I again click on all the files and choose properties then I get an info box telling me that the properties box is busy.
Eventually the properties box appeared with all the songs in it.

Basically just the box that tells you which song it's currently reading when it's trying to open the properties for a lot of songs disappears out of view and is lost to the world forever if you select another program while it's busy :)
