DLNA device names
« on: April 07, 2010, 05:14:54 pm »

I am really happy to see the degree of support for UPnP and DLNA in MC.  I am working with the latest MC 15 build and it finds my two Soundbridges but I can't tell which one is which.  You need a way to rename a discovered device so that you know which zone to send a playlist to.  I have searched all over and I can't find that functionality in MC15.

You're right, that's not currently possible.  We display whatever name the device gives us.

I don't suppose it's possible to configure the device to use a different name?

Regardless, I agree that this would be a nice addition.

The Roku's get discovered as "SoundPoint" and I have never found any place where you can change that.  I remember trying out another UPnP controller that allowed you to rename the device.  I suppose they identified the device by some other attribute and kept track of it using that attribute but displayed the custom name in the UI.

I see that with 15.0.28 you can change the DLNA device/zone names in the Zone Manager.  The name changes are reflected in the zone name showing in Playing Now.  However, the name changes do not persist if you shut down MC.

Getting closer.
