I've installed MJ on my desktop and notebook, both XP.  The notebook works fine.  The desktop has some bug which slows down MJ (trying to respawn a process) when I click on a pop up menu in the display view.

Both works fine, and I enjoy MJ on the XP machines.  I suspect that it has to do with some drivers- like adaptec etc.  But, could not verify it.

In general, I believe MJ will work fine on XP.

XP seems a little slower than 2000, on most PC's. You should upgrade according to your specs, but I think that anyone with less than 128 MB of RAM and a 450 CPU should not...

Compatibility-wise, XP is better than 2000, because of its per-prograg compatibility settings. Most 2000 drivers work in XP, although there are some that don't, but nowadays there are specific XP drivers for almost anything.

You should give XP a try. But why not a dual boot? XP/Linux? That's what I got, and I can tell you, it's excelent :) Pity WINE doesn't run MJ :(

I've run MJ8 with XP on a PII/350 and a P4/1.7g and it ran very well on both.

But does it reboot, with a blue screen or does it just shutdown the PC?

We're porting to Linux now.  We may have a simple player later this year, but it will take at least a full year from now to duplicate much of the functionality of the Windows version.

Hi ChicoSelfs;

Yes, XP runs as good as 2000 as XP is based on the 2000 kernel.

I had a few initial problems (I am a “power user” & have a very complex system) but finally resolved all the issues.  Most of the problems attributed to XP being a little less stable is not due to XP but due to the fact that XP can do so much more then 2000. People do things on XP that are impossible on 2000 so of course they will run across more problems.

If you run exactly the same programs on 2000 & XP, XP will actually be a little faster & just as stable with more features.

I have both XP Home & XP Professional.  I really like them both.

GO FOR IT!!

HAVE FUN!!
