Problem using ASIO and 24 / 96 files
« on: April 23, 2010, 01:28:23 pm »

I want to use ASIO since I have more high res files for playback now and have recently bought a Benchmark DAC1 which can playback 24 / 96 files.  I downloaded and installed ASIOA4ALL, and output mode to ASIO, and after experimentation found that channel offset 8 directed the sound to my Benchmark.  Regular CD files of 16 / 44 (FLAC) files play fine, but when I try to play a 24 / 96 file I get an error saying "Playback could not be started on the output ASIO using the format 96,000hz, 32 bits per sample, 2 channels".  The files I am playing are NOT 32 bit, they are 24, and MC recognizes them that way when I include bit depth as a column.  I tried using DSP to force MC to play them as 24 BIT, or even 16 BIT, but get the same error message.  In other words, it is ONLY when I am trying to play 24 bit files that ASIO thinks they are 32 bit, and I can not get them to play no matter what the DSP settings are.

Any idea????   I am using Windows XP and the latest MC 14.0.161.
