Is Real Player a dead horse?
It's obvious that MC, WinAmp, VLC, etc, etc are all under active development and widespread use.
You see/hear nothing about Real these days.
At work I'm trying to figure out whether or not making operational, GPO/policy and network/firewall exceptions for Real is worth the effort anymore. We try to be as laissez faire as possible with what the users do in their spare time There is however a limit as to the amount or resources/tolerance we are willing to invest in supporting necessary exceptions. So from time to time the list of approved distractions gets looked at and trimmed or expanded depending on the industry and what our users are doing.
Not looking to debate the merits of Real media v1/v2 or what alternatives might be there or how redundant we might be in terms of media support. I'm just looking for opinions on the viabliity of the Real Player itself.
We support/allow:
MC
VLC
MPC
WinAmp
iTunes
QT
Flash/AIR/AMP/Shockwave
WMP/Silverlight
and RealPlayer
and thanks
