'Show Tags With Values' issue
« on: July 15, 2010, 05:05:22 pm »

I mentioned one a while back, when tagging images the 'show tags with values' option appears to show tags with values from the default set rather then the full set of available tags.

Could you give an example?

Is it possible the field is selected in the 'Also Show' submenu?

Thanks.

Matt,
In the first image, you can see all tags including shutter speed and ISO
The second image is with 'Show tags with Values' and only shows 9 tags, I would have expected it to show any tags that are populated.

Hope this helps,

You're not alone... this is posted in the main '15' forum:

Selecting 'Show Tags with Values' from the Tag window's context menu does not result in all the tags with values being shown.

Specifically, I had run 'Analyze Audio' on my library, resulting in the Peak Level, BPM Replay Gain tags being set. If I select 'Show All Tags', I can see them.  But if I select 'Show Tags with Values', I get a tag list that is as terse as 'Show Default Tags', and does not contain all tags with values.

MC 15.0.73.0

It would appear that when choosing "Show tags with values", MC is not displaying any "read only" fields that have values, instead, only presenting the editable fields.
I'm not sure if that's where the problem ends, but it's certainly a start!!

It only shows filled, editable fields.

As far as I can tell, the program has always worked this way.

I suppose there could be two choices:
"Show Editable Tags With Values"
"Show All Tags With Values"

Well it seems a bit strange for "Show All Tags With Values" to actually mean "Show all editable tags with values" :)

I run into the same problem daily, figured it was by-design (unfortunately). There are several read-only tags that sometimes need checking, but not often enough to add them to the overhead of a view.

The workaround is either to show all tags (used to be practical but there are so many now..) or temporarily add the desired fields to the current view (but it's possible to overlook a field).

MUCH better is Matt's "offer" ;D to provide two choices. I'd put them in the below order, because the need seems to be more to check a value than to expose the fields for editing, so the top option should be the most-used.

"Show All Tags With Values"
"Show Editable Tags With Values"

I can't help feeling that the "editable" option would be redundant, as those tags would be exposed by the "all tags" option anyway, and seeing one that needed editing, you would just edit it, right there, wouldn't you?

For me, "all tags with values" should show "all tags with values" as expected, and nothing else is needed.

I'm with Marko on this one,

The other options cover most needs but 'Show all' should mean show all.

I like Matt's idea
A variation on the theme

Show tags with values
Show all tags
--------------------------
X Editable tags only
