Theater View & RDP/VNC
« on: July 27, 2010, 01:55:34 pm »

When accessing my HTPC via an RDP or VNC client and I try to use Theater View, the remote screen (ie on my client) shows a black screen with the error "Error starting Direct3D engine (error finding compatible stencil buffer format)"

I've tried setting the various drawing quality options from Low->High in the Theater View options. All throw the same error.

Any thoughts on different MC configurations or RDP/VNC configurations I could try?

Sorry but you're out of luck here. I'd like to do the same but it's simply not possible because 3D doesn't get rendered in a RDP connection. You can only avoid Theater View in this case.

UltraVNC shows theaterview just fine. (although lots of graphics makes it slow) Films works too, don't ask about fps though..

Good call on UltraVNC! It does NOT throw the Direct3D error in Theater View.

:)

(Now to see if I can configure it to be as responsive as the baseline Microsoft RDC server and Mac client)

Try JollysFastVNC as a Mac client.
