JimH... FM Radio functions

I would like to see FM radio tuners incorporated into MJ.

I have been using a radio card for many years & after much searching; found a radio tuner software product that is as good in the radio tuner area as MJ 8 is in the Media Player area. It supports most radio cards & some TV cards with radio tuners.  Just like MJ 8, it is very programmable.  It was produced by PC Radio at www.kagi.com/mpucci. I say “was” because he (Pucci) stopped development work on it on December of 2000, but it is still the best one out there.

Maybe JRiver could contact Pucci (he lives in Italy) & see if he would release the code to incorporate it into the next version of MJ?

NOTE: I just tried his site.  It appears to be closed down.  It was still up & running just last month.  Rats!  But, you may be able to still contact him through www.Kagi.com as he used Kagi to collect his shareware fees.  Or try his e-mail at mpucci@kagi.com.

Pucci’s code could make implementing FM radio much easier into MJ.  As he seems to be out of business, maybe he would provide it for free just to know that his code is alive & well in MJ.

If you want to look at PC Radio, you might try ZD Net or C-net as they both carried it.  Be sure to get the last version 1.80 (I think).  It loads three versions of PC Radio… Light, Medium & Full.

Puccis’ e-mail seems to still be working.  I sent him the following request today…

“HI;

How you been doing?  All is well I hope.

Noticed that your PC Radio site is gone.  Has anyone else taken it over?

I have been talking to JRiver www.musicex.com/cgi-bin/interact/ about adding FM radio tuner function into their great Media Jukebox program.
They are hesitant, at present, but I thought that if they had some really great FM radio tuner code to start with they would go ahead & do it.

Would you consider giving them the source code?

This would assure that your wonderful code will have a long live, living on in a really wonderful Media Player such as Media Jukebox.

Thanks again”

Doc,
Thanks for taking the trouble.  I saw your other post and tracked it down.  I'll try to take a look.

I don't mean to give you the impression we're not interested.  I am.

Anyone else interested in radio?  The program appears to support a handful of cards, and it probably wouldn't work with newer cards, but who knows.

Hi Jim;

Many FM radio tuner cards will actually work on more then one supported type.  Pucci was pretty fast at adding new tuner support so I suspect it is fairly easy (after you understand the new cards specific needs).

When looking at the actual FM radio tuner, they all pretty much look alike. Two tuner coils & associated circuitry.  It is like TV tuners… only a few companies actually make the tuner regardless of whose name is on the box (Phillips, used by ATI & others, for example is a big one).

I don't have an FM card, but I am definately interested in looking into it.  I'd welcome this in MJ.  I'm also ok with a being a separate ($) plug-in.

I too would like to see FM tuner abilites in MJ. I just purchased a AverTV Studio tuner card and it has built in FM tuner abilities. It would make a great addition to a already excellent product.
