Theater View - View/Sort Problem
« on: August 24, 2010, 11:47:20 am »

Hi Guys!

I,ve one Problem.I want to "Cut-Out" my Music Videos from the Movie Videos to a Root View in Theater Mode.
So I made a new Root Library Field called Music Videos.
Now I tried to add a Folder Rule,so that in the Music Videos View are only MusicV.
Example:
HDD1:
C:\Movies
C:\Music Videos
Both on the same HDD ->Movies and Music Videos
The Problem is,that i can set only a Full Path Rule like (C:\),but no specific Folder like(C:\Music Videos).
I made a workaround and added a Rule with the Description Tag and tagged "Videos->Video" and "Music Videos->Music Video"
So works all fine, but not good for me because yesterday i added a few Files (Videos & Music Videos) and was wondering first why they didn't appear in Theater View, til i thought about the day before as i tagged my files. ::)
I'm using a HTPC with Remote Control so I'm not happy about this.
I don't want to tag files each time i add them to the system. That's the Point why I'm using the Location view mostly ;D (for Videos only)

Is there any workaround, that i can set a specific folder rule,so that the files are importing themselves into Theatre View.(Location View)??
I've 4x 2TB HDD's onboard. Lot of things to sort! 8)

i do more or less the same as you, but then with images.
use some thing like
filename > starts with > C:\Music Videos

or

filename > contains > Music Videos

in the rules

I am not 100% sure if this is what you are trying to do but I am doing some work on my music and wanted to move a certain set of music to a different location on the hard drive and then view only that music in Theater View. I moved the music and then created a view that only looks at that folder and a second view that only looks at the original folder. Now when I go into Theater View I see my two views and can peruse them separately or go into my normal views and see all music. Is that what you are trying to do?

Not only are you unrestricted in using Rules for file display that refer to paths (as gappie suggests), you can include a "Location" view. Where you would normally add a category to "Details," select a "file path" rather than "library field" type category. Set this to the appropriate root folder. The resulting view will allow browsing the child folders. As you point out, such a view has the advantage of not requiring any tagging to be done. Even if other more sophisticated views (that rely on tags) are available, I think it's a good idea to always include a "Locations" view just in case the others are not working—for any reason.

This does require, however, a properly organized folder structure. It's not going to work if you put things in different root folders. It requires something like...

D:\Video\Home
D:\Video\Documentary
D:\Video\Movies
D:\Video\Movies\Restricted (access controlled)
D:\Video\Movies\Trailers
D:\Video\Music
D:\Video\Series
D:\Video\Series\[series name]

Then just add a Location view with the root path D:\Video—and you're done.

Thanks for the quick Answers.

I'll see,I will have to play a little around with the Views & Rules.
