Note2: if you turn on USB Debugging in the Andriod settings you get a Product ID of 3259 (which I think is generic Andriod)

Thanks for all the help so far.

It looks like vendors use the same vendor and product ID across lots of devices.

For example, Samsung uses:
Vendor ID: 1256
Product ID: 26720

For:
Samsung Galaxy S2
Samsung Galaxy S II Epic 4G Touch
Samsung Galaxy Note

HTC does a similar thing.

So we need a better way to identify an Android.  Any suggestions?

Another approach is to just use the name "Android" and the robot picture for all Androids, but this doesn't feel as slick.
