How do I add a new m4a feed to the podcast list? MC seems to refuse to download or play them. If I add a new feed, for example

This podcast feed is not currently available, or contains a data format error. Please notify the webmaster, or just check back later.
RSS Feed target is not XML
If I opening the feed from File --> Open URL, then my web browser (Firefox) opens with a window offering to open or save the file. If i choose open with MC, the file downloads completely and then plays
Why can't I add it to the menu as a feed?
Sorry if I'm being dense, I have no experience with podcasts
