Tagging SDK

Hi MJ,

I should be posting this into the wishlist.  But I would like to get some feedback first.  Many of us, who are using a computer based jukebox for our primary music entertainment are serious about our hobby- at least from this interact web page.

With 4000-8000 song collection, and I see many of MJ users falls within this category- serious users, good facility for tagging is very important.  Also, we might be using 1-2 jukebox during the transition because we have collected a lot of information in our MP3 files.  The MP3 format provides tagging which gives us a lot of flexibility apart from listening to songs on a computer-based machine.

I would really like to have a Smart Tag SDK which I can use.  This should be part of the library management.  What we need is an ability to map tags between 2 MP3 files- because different jukebox uses the files differently.

This function is useful for:

a) Migrating files from other jukebox into MJ
b) Re-encoding of songs, which allow us to copy tags from older MP3 files into the newly encoded files

Primarily, during ripping, only the basic details gets saved.  For many of us, with already a large collection of MP3, re-encoding to get better quality or reduce disk space is a very important maintenance activity.

Hence, I suggest enhancing the libary mgmt facility, where we can query an MP3 song based on filters (like the find function), allow us to select tags to copy, and replace those files selected in the replace filters, and mapped into the necessary fields.

This allow us to really transfer music from other jukebox into MJ.  It also allow us to re-rip our favorite CDs and get the tags which we have stored previously into MJ.

We've had a lot of requests for "re-ripping" and we're considering it for the next version.

And about the types of fields you can store in the tags, this will be fully customizable in the next version of MJ.

Thanks.
