I can play 24/96 tacks with no problem (using a DACmagic), but when I try to play a 24/88 I got a error message "Automatically Configure Output format:
playback could not be started using the format 88200 Hz, 24 bits per sample, 2 channels. This format would work 48000hx, 24 bits per sample, 2 channels. Would you like to have yout DSP studio -> output format settings changed automatically."

This has not occurred with any other track - 16/44 and 24/96 tracks all play fine, and the correct LED on the dacmagic is illuminated confirming the sample rate is the same as the source file.

Ok having read a bit more I guess its because my PC hardware cannot work at 24/88? There was another error message that suggested hardware might not support 24/88 - but if this is the case, why do I not have a problem with 24/96?

OK, have estbalished that my optical out will only run at 44, 48 and 96 sample rates.

I have changed the output setting in MC to resaple at 96 if the file is less than 44k and greater than 48K. I am not sure from the descrption whether this means that 24/96 tracks are also re-sampled?? I am assuming that this should not deteriorate the sound in any way..?

When there is nothing to do the resampler does not alter the audio signal.

Thanks - it wasn't immediately obvious when I first read it - makes sense now.
