Image scanning/naming/tagging advice?
« on: December 12, 2010, 02:59:11 pm »

I'm getting ready scan a bunch of old photos, primarily for viewing in MC's Theater View. I've never done much any high-volume scanning, and I wondered if anyone had advice, links, etc, for the best method of scanning, naming and tagging photos? I currently use the Year\Album view scheme, but many of the photos I'll be scanning have partial or missing date information.

If you're talking MANY old photos, I can recommend one of these services. I used both of them to get rid of my 8 photo albums. When you consider how much your time is worth, it was a no-brainer. The first is fastest (the day they receive your photos they'll ship them out too) and cheaper, but the second gives you higher quality scans.

Thanks for the responses. I'm going to try a feed scanner to quickly scan my photos. They won't be very high quality (600 dpi jpgs) but they will be digitized where I can tag them in MC (with an assist, perhaps, from Picasa). Thanks to the magic of MC and stacking, I can always archival quality versions of the crucial pics at a later date.
