Hello everyone,

There's a story in the LA times today that Universal and Sony are about to start digital distribution of singles (.99) and albums (9.99) through retailers.  The downloads will be able to be burned to a CD and freely copied after that.  They suggest that it won't be long until the price is .49 per song.

Sure hope this happens soon. I believe it will be a boon to MJ.

Still cost to much
At this price ,albums will find they way to p2p.

Because now they have a double problem:
To offer music on download at cheap price
To make they offer not worth to use p2p

Cause they will never succes to close the p2p

At $10 an album,it is worth to use a p2p

I would pay $.99 to buy, download and use how I see fit, lots of music.  This option provides a per song price, and you could avoid buying entire CD's if the music did not warrant it.  The only caveat to that would be the quality would have to be good, maybe even .wav.  Obvisously, the price is subject to discussion about whom thinks what price is fair, but I don't think that is unreasonable.

Now will you pay $10 for an album you like,you want ,instead of buy it in a shop?
$10 for mp3,no art,no sleeve?

Music online will ALWAYS use sub-quality format-mp3,wma,pro.
Any other format better and bigger has numbers in front of himeople on slow connection against people on fast connection

Fast connection for all is a dream.And in some countrys fast connection =0,5 mb connection
To donwload APE at 15 kp\s is still a big task..........

That's why I won't buy into this downloadable music crap (either will most audiophiles or people who are particularly anal about sound quality). If I'm paying for $10|PLS| for an album, I want the full quality copy.

I don't think a dollar per song is unreasonable, as long as I can hear it in advance, know it's sounds good to me, and I can save and record it any way I choose.

The article said Universal was going to use Liquid Audio to download files, but did not mention the format or bitrate.  Also let's hope they get to the .49 per song price real quick.

Went to the LA Times site to read the article (not in NYT or WSJ). Their registration process asks for everything short of a blood test (I'm being polite).

Are they serious? I'm not paranoid, but much more of that and I might be.
