I am trying to configure my Library Server for remote access, and I keep getting this error message.  I normally connect my computers at home to a broadband router, and the internet connection to that comes from a DSL modem. For testing purposes, I connected the PC running Library Server directly to the modem, and in the modem's setup I forwarded port 52199 to my PC. I have also completely disabled Windows Firewall. Still, I keep getting this error message when I try to test the connection. What am I missing??

Windows 7 Professional
MC 15.0.172
Actiontec GT701D DSL modem

What virus scanner are you using?
I am not aware of any conflicts but when a firewall isn't the problem virus
software is the next logical step since they are basically an internal firewall.
Maybe try creating an exception for MC.
One other thought is UAC setting.

I am using AVG. Tried disabling it. Still doesn't work.

What is UAC?

You would need to uninstall AVG.  We had another user with the exact same issue and simply disabling AVG did not fix it. After uninstalling AVG the library server worked fine.

Sheesh. That worked! Now, can someone tell me WHY this works? Logically, you would not think that a virus scanner would interfere with a server. That's the job of a firewall. And if you are told that it is, you would logically assume that disabling it would solve the problem. Why does only uninstalling it fix the problem? More importantly, What do I do for virus protection now?

Because there is a lot of junk out there posing as security software.

Please ask about virus checkers in a new thread.  I'll close this one now.
