New MKV Splitter: SolveigMM
« on: October 06, 2010, 04:38:57 pm »

For those interested in playing with filters, you may want to have a look at the "SolveigMM MKV DirectShow Demuxer + Muxer" thread at http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=154055 .  They have just released V1 and it shows some early promise.  It will load and play fine in MC (see pic and Filter Graph info).  One of the big things is they they are looking at hooking into the Arcsoft HD Audio Decoder that if successful would for the first time give us full DTS-HD decoding in DirectShow filters.  That said I've so far not had much of a play but I'm yet to see any Menu for Stream Switching, Subs, and seeking seems not to work in MC.

Thanks
Nathan

How come it doesn't show up as a source filter like other splitters? That might explain why I thought I was unable to install it when SamuriHL first suggested trying it a few months back.
Thanks for the info - looking forward to trying this soon.

I only worked it out by playing with it in Graph Edit and hence the screen shot.  I see that it connects to a Souce Filter so I guess you could use not only the File Souce (Async) but also the Streaming ones as well....

Hello Guys,

Surfing web, occasionally encounter this thread :)

Please let us know all the problems/ wishes or notes you have about our MKV Splitter Filter. We are going to wrap it to freeware installation shortly and add tray icon to manage audio and subtitles in third party players.

Regards,

Hi Dmitry

Thanks very much for taking the time to post here and request feedback. Thanks also for making a solution that I hope will be the final one we need for a long long time.
I haven't tried the solveig splitter yet, but hope to do so soon.
Here are what I wish to see, and I believe that some of these are already available:

*Bitstreaming and decoder (LPCM) support for True-HD and DTS-HD MA audio.

*Ability to choose any audio and subtitle tracks.

*DXVA and CUDA support

*Ability to take a screenshot (may be renderer dependent), even automatically as in MC thumbnail generation.

*Ability to display subtitles and do DXVA/CUDA at the same time (again, may be renderer dependent)

*No conflict between the tray icons and MC; other products eg Haali, ffdshow and CoreAVC all have/had problems with MC and their tray icons. It would be really useful to have a product taht has tray icons used for stream selection that does not cause conflict with MC. I don't think we know whather it's MC that's the cause or whether the tray icons themselves are violating some kind of rule.

* To work equally well with nVidia, ATi/AMD and Intel video solutions.

That's all I ask, unless I forgot something. :)

I'm guessing from the tone of your question that the splitter has nothing to do with hardware acceleration? If so, that's fine; it's just that the user guides out there always seem to recommend Haali or Gabest's splitter for hardware acceleration, so I figured that maybe the acceleration is a feature that the splitter actively has to support.

yes, me too. I tried it again about three weeks ago. No luck in it showing up in source filters or elsewhere.
