XMLTV Genre
« on: May 02, 2011, 11:54:11 am »

We're going to try to set the genre of television programs based on the XMLTV 'category' entries.

Currently, these entries go to the 'Keywords' field in Media Center.

To do this, we're creating a white-list of acceptable genres.  Could you look at the Keywords for your television recordings and see if there are any keywords that would be a genre that are not represented in this list:

  • Comedy
  • Documentary
  • Children
  • Travel
  • Sports
  • News

Thanks.

I don't have much input or preference here, but here are DishNetwork's list of genres:

I don't have recordings, but some of the genres I have for my TV shows are:

Sci-Fi
Horror
Drama
Action
Crime
Thriller

I do, however, add the prefix "TV" before all of these to additionally differentiate them form their "movie" counterparts which remain sans prefix.

I think I may not have been clear.

I'm not looking for a canonical list of genres, but instead looking for values that appear in 'Keywords' for XMLTV imported programs that would make good genre values.

Thanks.

Sorry. I was afraid that I didn't quite get what you were asking for!

These are the keywords in my TV Recordings not already in your list:
Action/Adventure
Drama
Cooking
Educational

I didn't think these would count:
Episodic
Kids
Series
Lifestyle

I have two categories in my XMLTV file that currently don't seem to get mapped to the Genre.

"Entertainment"  and "Current Affairs"
