Remap tags on device sync

Is there a way to remap tags as part of a device sync, natively or with a plugin? For example, I would like to be able to remap the "Artist" tag written to my phone using MC's fantastic "Album Artist (auto)" tag.

If not doable automatically, is there a way of manually editing just the tags of the files copied to my phone (i.e. wihtout messing up the tags for my general media files)?
