Sony BDP-570 Plays images, not music or videos.
« on: December 11, 2010, 05:12:12 pm »

My Sony BDP-570 BR Disk Player can see my images but when I select music all my files show up and then when I select one I get there is no playable media file. This also happens with my videos, all the above play on MC-15.
Music files are mostly MP3 and some Flac, videos are AVI.
Thanks Johnkr

We've got a 570 on the stack of devices to test. I'll let you know when we get there...

Turn on DLNAExtra and for audio, "Convert When Necessary" to one of the MP3 presets and you'll get working audio (and maybe "present small artwork" to get cover art).

For Images, I'd turn on conversion and set it to the size of your screen.

I'm not sure why video isn't working. Still looking into it.

Hey Guys,
I just got one of these BDP-570s and can't get it to show up in Playing Now as a renderer. I turn on all 3 DLNA options and enables DLNAExtra. THe Sony sees MC (15.0.167) and I can browse/play audio via the Sony interface (sadly, no Playlist view). I'd like to be able to send a playlist to the device from MC...any thoughts?

Thanks,
Andy

I'll check the playlist view when browsing from the player on Monday.

Not all renderers are controllable. The ones that aren't will not show up in playing now. I've yet to see a controllable BD player. The PS3 is also an example of a renderer that's not controllable. They are made to be used using their own remote only.

Bob, Thanks for the info about the BD players. I originally wanted the Sony Network Media Player, but it was backordered and they substituted the BD player with similar network features. Not sure if the SMP-N100 would behave differently?

If not a Sony, what other recommendations would you have for sending audio/video via Play To?

Thanks

I did a quick check on the SMP-N100 online and there are some references to firmware updates that indicate it might be controllable but I wouldn't count on it. Perhaps some other users will chime in?

The only controllable renderer I've got here is the WDTV which seems to work well even on my pretty hostile upnp network.

Thanks for the info Bob. I may send this one back and lean toward the WDTV.

The playlists do show up in all of my groups, music images and video. Also I figured out how to get the video working.

If you have the current version, use the Sony BD/TV preset for your DLNA server and you should be set.

Thanks for quick reply Bob

I am using V15.0.174.  MC16 has the additional presets?

Yes, I think that you might be able to use it in 15 too. Start with Generic DLNA. Go into advanced. Make sure DLNA is checked. Also check DLNA Extra and PS3 compatible.
For audio, use convert when necessary to one of the MP3 presets.
For images, use the Conversion, pick the preset that matches your display size.
For Video, chose "Convert Unsupported" to "DVD/MPEG2 stream"
