10. Fixed: Media Jukebox would not let Windows to shut down if MJ was minimized.

This seems to work on my Win2K laptop now.

And, I am not one to throw stones regarding spelling and grammer, as I have to type everything in MS Word first, but you might want to change the above to say "would not ALLOW windows to shut"

Thanks

Oh.  I'm having one of those waathaawhenwho sinking moments where I can't remember if they were there before or just went away....

Not that those lines really imparted any terribly useful information, it's just that the items in the tree look kinda naked just dangling there in space.

The lines went away a few weeks ago.  It's the new new XP look.

If you disable skins, the lines are still there.

I'm still getting the buttons uncolored on startup.  They fill in when used or MJ is resized.

LC,
Can you start a new thread on the toolbar problem?  Include your system info, video hardware.  Ask for others who can duplicate it to do the same?  We know it was there, but some report it is fixed.  Confirm that you have build 293.

Are we still reporting bugs?

The display bug I mentioned in the .291 thread is still there in .293.

mini-me with display plugin set to visualizations
Switch to Full Screen mode (with display plugin set to Track Info)
Switch back to mini-me. The display window is now disabled. Right clicking on it brings up mini-me's right click menu instead of the display window's right click menu.

There exists a weird bug that when I try to get CDDB info for individual files, it always immediately comes back saying there wasn't a match; yet, if I feed MJ a CD, it finds the info with no problem.

Bill,

Not sure, but I think CDDB reads the T.O.C. from the cd. ( Table of contents.)

It works on my system on files that I've downloaded going through the Tools menu in File properties.

Shelly:

That's very odd, because that's exactly what I tried, too.  It used to work, but I don't really know at what version it stopped, because I haven't really added any media to MJ in quite a while.

MachineHead:

I don't doubt what you said, it makes sense, but I know that there was a lot of internet traffic when it returned all the album and track info.  This was from an old CD that didn't have any cd text.  Strange.

Yeah, CDDB on individual files doesn't seem too reliable for me either.

Although I have never used it before so I don't know if it is normal like this or not.

BTW, is there a way to get CDDB to work on more than one file at a time? -Say for albums.
(I get the message saying it only works for individual files).

I am trying to obtain info for compilation albums (various artists).
I can only get the Album title and "Various Artists" listed as the artist.

-Instead of the track artist, and the Album artist listed appropriately.

Can anyone help?

There are definatly limitations when using CDDB through file properties - tools menu.  It will only look up 1 track at a time, usually returns 'various artists' in the artist field for various artist albums, although occasionally will return the actual artist, and infrequently offers a choice of albums when looking up the album title based on artist and song name.
If I remember correctly, performing the same operation in MM, CDDB usually offered a choice of 4 albums and also let you look up multiple tracks.  However, there was so much inaccuracy, I always used AMG to confirm the results.

Shelly:

I deifinitely agree about the inaccuracy part.  I used to do exactly what you did - download the info, then check for accuracy.  It's right slightly more oftenthan it's not, so I guess it's worth the trouble.  Beats doing it by hand.  Next Page

Bill

Well, here's what I could find on the subject.  In the file's properties, clicking on help and looking under "tools", I find that in order for CDDB tro work right, it needs a special entry in the file's tag.

Anyone know what that's about?

If you rip from MJ, I guess it puts in the appropriate tag?  Unfortunately, I us EAC to rip - seems like it does the best job.  Not to knock MJ, but EAC seems to have the best error correction around.

Hi all at JRiver
I notice that when I close down WinXP with MJ in MiniMode using the right hand corner skin it wont appear after a reboot when opened. It just resides in the taskbar, I thought I could not get it back but maximise does it. Whew  Otherwise all is well here with MJ Thanks for a great Jukebox.

Bill,

Have you tried Find and Replace? Or possibly remove tag info? Then let MJ do its thing with CDDB. Maybe selecting a small set of files and trying this out. Worst thing that could happen would be having to re-rip a few files.

It may be a stupid question but...

"Media Jukebox 8.0.290 is available:
ftp://ftp.jriver.com/pub/downloads/music/MediaJukebox80290.exe
NOTE -- If you have 8.0.289, don't download this unless you need it to solve one of the problems below. Please report back if it does solve your problem. Thanks."

Does this apply to all releases after 289?

Thanks

gvag,
The answer is no.  293 is very stable and as bug free as we can make it and still have lives.  Best to get it.

Build 293 seems very, very stable: no more crashes on startup.  I'm really happy of my purchase.

Some minor problems, however, which were not present in build 289: has anyone else noticed them?

1: if a number is included in the search field the result seems not always consistent. I was looking for an opus 57 track, and I've searched for "op 57" and then for "57 op" ( both times without quotes), obtaining two different search results. I've tried several times, using the same operands "57 op" but getting slightly different results (71 tracks, or 72, or 74 or 76... of course I had not changed my library in the meanwhile). I've also tried to include 57 in quotes, but the result was still not constant. Even adding spaces at the end of the search operand sometimes changes the result. I've never noticed such a problem with alphanumeric operands.
It seems more frequent if a track is playing (I'm not sure).
Is it a bug or I'm missing something? If I have an erratic system I'd like to know! However the problem was not present in build 289 (I've tried to reproduce it without success) and happens, with b 293, even on my wife's pc.

2: if you select several tracks and then right click for properties, the "Gathering file information" counter stops for a long time somewhere between track 10 and track 20, and remains frozen until gathering is complete. During the same time, if a track is playing, it's time counter freezes as well, and restarts counting when gathering file information ends. The Windows monitor shows that the Cpu is completely saturated during that time interval.
Even this problem was not present in build 289.

Thanks for your attention
Luigi

This was in 289 as well.

MEDIA JUKEBOX caused an invalid page fault in
module IN_MP3.DLL at 0167:03ed221f.
Registers:

How to trigger it.
Start a playlist with more than one track.  Click next track then try to ctl-left past the start of current track.  289  required a system reboot when this happened, 293 does not.

General comment re next track problem from 289.  In 289 MJ would hiccup if you started playing another track by clicking the next button or selecting another track and pressing enter (I could hear residual sounds from the current track).  The hiccup is now a burp, transition to the new track is smoother but still not as clean as when the track ends normally.  Changing the Play Back options does not affect this behaviour.  Also, there is still an annoying "tell" just prior to the ending of a track, a click just before the track ends.

a) I just burned a CD with MJ 8.0.293 and indicated I wanted 2 copies of the CD.

b) After writing the first CD it attempted to write on that same CD again and gave me a message that this CD was not writable and ejected it.

c) After inserting a new blank it carried on and wrote the second copy fine.

The message was confusing because I thought the first CD couldn't be written for some reason.

I tried converting a number of MP3s to MP3 VBR at the same time as other MP3s were playing.  The converted files were full of pops and squawks.  Converting without anything playing worked fine.

I've said this before, but now I'm putting it up as a bug report.

If you set crossfading to less that 1 second, it fails most of the time no matter which type of crossfade you use, especially when you skip songs within a few seconds (which I usually do...old Winamp disease).

I've offered to record the phenomena to show what I mean and send it to you people at JRiver with no response. Perhaps you're interested? For more information, see my previous topic about it, named 'Crossfading trouble', i think.

And yes, I like it when the crossfading is short, one second is in my opinion too long Next Page

Thanks!

I have no problem with Crossfade 0.3s and set to aggressive.
This makes "broken up" classical and opera tracks seemless.

Was just browsing the web radio listing in the latest build and noticed an icon error that wasn't in the last build. In the list of radio stations the plus symbol is pressent but the 2 icons to the right are shaded squares with a dot in the middle.
