Hi all!

I have MJ 8. Running on WIN 98SE with Pentium 4 @2.4
My MJ often does illegal operations. Sometimes also when I click onto ""CD, DVD, Handheld" with audio CDs in the CD-ROM drives, it shows nothing on the list. I then have to rebbot the computer to get it to work.

Anyone with a good tip of what to do?

Sounds like old ASPI. Go to MJ>Help>System Info and copy/paste the info into a new post. That'll give us something to work with.

Regarding the "Illegal Operation" caused, the mesage is: Music Jukebox caused an invalid page fault in module KERNEL32.dll at 0187:bff88396

Any idea of what's wrong with teh damned thing?

a newer ASPI

Make sure you read the install directions, it is not just unzip the file, you need to unzip then run a install file inside the c:\adaptec dir

you also should upgrade MJ8 to 8.0.396

I've had lots of problems of this sort when running Win 98SE.

The following from the MJ FAQ helped some:

Important setup information for burning under Win 95/98/NT
If you are using MEDIA JUKEBOX under Win 95/98/NT, then you must make sure that the following settings are enabled/disabled for all CD-ROM readers and recorders on your system:
WINDOWS 95/98 DEVICE SETTINGS
1) Open the "Control Panel" folder and click on the ³System" icon.
2) Select the "Device Manager" tab.
3) Click on the CD-ROM icon.
4) For each CD-ROM device in the list:

Select the device.
Select the "Settings" tab.
Enable the "Disconnect" option.
Enable the "Sync Data Transfer" option.
Disable the "Auto Insert Notification" option.
Disable the "DMA" option (if available).
Click "OK."

FYI: In any event, I think you're going to have to expect a significant number of problems and crashes with MJ when you run Win98. For me, following the FAQ helped, but I still regularly encounter problems and crashes of various sorts when MJ uses my CD drives. This happens despite the fact that my software, drivers, etc. are up-to-date and my hardware is in good shape. In my opinion, MJ simply doesn't do well with Win 98SE (which is maybe--I'm guessing--a case of MJ not thoroughly "kludging" around Win 98's various bugs and other challenges).
