Room Correction - Distance (left/right)
« on: July 02, 2011, 03:48:52 pm »

I know that in most all cases when setting speaker distance, left/right distance will be the same as well as SL/SR and RL/RR. I noticed though that if working with just say the Left/Right speakers if the distance setting between the two are different, that what it appears to be doing is just attenuating the the sound of one of the speakers. Say I set left to 6ft and right to 8ft, it seems to be only lowering the level of the left speaker. If I increase the right distance even further it can reduce the left level to almost zero.

This is completely different than how I've experienced other devices with room correction. On both my home theater receivers it doesn't operate like this. Also the THX speaker distance setting in my x-fi doesn't work this way either.

Am I over looking something?

Room Correction adjusts timing and levels.  It assumes matched sets for L/R, RR/RL, SL/SR and uses some physics math to get a ballpark level difference based on the difference in distance.

This is why you set distances first.

And then fine-tune the levels (preferably with a meter).
