Ok, I double clicked on a MP3 file stored on a different computer.
Running M$ network, peer to peer, shared hard drives.
Song did not play because dummy me had turned off the other computer.
Turned the other computer on, tried to refresh newtwork neighborhood, but MJ still acted like it could not connect/see other machine.  I could see the other machine's drive in network neighborhood.  Only MJ could not see it.
Had to reboot MJ machine.
Anyone know a way to dyamically have MJ see a networked machine, that is turned on AFTER MJ is started?

You may have to talk to Microsoft about MS networking.  If MJ doesn't see it, it's because the MS network is confused.

Have you looked at Media Server (part of MJ 8.0)?  It serves MP3 files from one PC and lets the player on another PC see its library.

Thanks for quick response.  What I do not quite understand is why all the non-mediajukebox programs that I tried, did dynamically see the files on remote machine, once I turned that machine on.  Seemed to me that there may be differences in how mediajukebox checks for presence of a remote shared disk and other programs do this.  Just a thought.

Less seriously, do you have a number or contact name at Microsoft?  Hopefully, someone who specializes in networking and indulgence.

I was running from a networked drive, just like Robert, until I saw this thread and decided to give Media Server a whirl.

All I can say is this package keeps on surprising me, in the nicest possible way
