Rhapsody (www.listen.com) has released an update that now permits burning from the Naxos classical catalogue - $9.95 per month for up to 10 files. Apparently 128 kbps, very few details I could find, but from FAQs it appears that there are no DRM limitations on the ability to burn to CD, as distinct from downloading to the hard drive. No indications yet if other catalogues will be freed up.

$1.00 per file is too high. As others have observed, digital music distribution incurs little of the packaging and indirect expense associated with traditional distribution modes. They need to re-map their thinking. The ease of digital distribution and use opens up real market potential they've never been able to exploit with traditional formats.

The price isn't right but the concept is. Provide Blue Note at $0.25 per file (or a higher per-file price for a higher bit-rate) and there's something to talk about.

Is it possible we're seeing some convergence here, however painfully slow it seems?

Do not know in US.But here and in Europe Naxos cds are very cheap.Sure you can buy 2 Naxos cds for $1
