Safety Copy
« on: July 03, 2011, 04:45:39 am »

Hi,

I tried to copy my albums to an extra HDD, and got the message that some titles are too long to be copied.
Something like Artist/Album Name:
Doug Sahm & The Real Texas Tornadoes - Doug Sahm & The Real Texas Tornadoes.
Everything works fine while handling and playing in MC but when trying to paste and copy to another drive
it wont work. As there is nearly 800 albums to copy I sonder how to work around this issue.

Someone here with the same problem?

Windows stupidly does not handle paths that are longer than 256 characters, might this be your problem?

It might be the problem, it seems that windows both includes the foldername and track name when copy.
Is there a way or software that can solve this problem?

If you have your music in e.g. C:\sound\
If you copy \Sound to D:\folder\longer folder\even longer folder\sound  you might exceed the 256 limit.

Copy \sound\ to D: will solve this.

MC also have some powerful options to rename files
