renaming actual file name when editing tags

is it possible to have the actual system file name renamed when updating/changing tags in MC?

Yes it is, but requires an additional operation:

1- Select files to be renamed
2- right-click -->> select: Library Tools --> Rename, Move, & Copy files
3- set parameter for rename based upon tags (some preset formats are available in within the 'Rules" settings)
File name and folder names/structure can be separately controlled

Test on one or two files before trying on many as this can also move and/or rename the folders too.

thanks very much.  Is there anyway to have this done automatically when I update tags with MC other than having to right click etc.  I'm thinking of a default behaviour that just renames when tags are edited.

No. But if you're that confident in the accuracy of your tagging and renaming rules, you can—at any time—rename all the files in your library.
