I'm using MJ8, version 8.0.394, and I can't convert or rip. When I try to do either of those functions, I get that damned "illegal operation" message, and MJ8 crashes, and messes with my system. What could be causing this problem? It's getting frustrating, as I need to have the ability to convert and rip, so I can clean up my music files, and eventually take them off my system, as I only have a 6.4 GB drive.
My system is set up with the following:
Windows 98 SE
IE6
AMD 233
64 RAM
I'm also using the MP3 Encoder, found on the plug-ins page.
Please help.

it maybe time to upgrade your computer, more and more programs will refuse to run on your system and Windows 98 support for most Apps has almost dried up.

that said make sure you do not have any apps running other than MJ, and if there is any programs like chat, norton etc... is not running.

you can go to MJ, then help, System Info and post your system stats into your next message.

if your system resorces for windows 98 is about 50-60% or under it becomes unstable and you will see crashes like this.

Thanks King. The best I can do, just with MJ running is, around 81% on the System Resources, and around 22 MB of free RAM. Think that'll be enough? Or, would bumping up the RAM help?

This system's capable of handling 512 MB of RAM. Should be getting some money for that this week. Perhaps if I punch it up as far as it'll go, other things besides MJ will work better.

That is not true. Windows don't need so much resources.I usually have only 40% free and everything works fine.

Resource Info: System - 5 %, GDI - 5 %, User - 17 %

System is stable, Media Jukebox is playing and I can write and post this message.

LOL well I dont want to brag but....if you upgraded you could do as I am doing right now- twin veiw 19", and a 21" monitors. Im playing MW4 on 1 monitor and using MJ, jammin  Dream Theatre on the other.

Sys. resources are at 88%

tell microsoft that, they are the people who wrote it and they stated that fact.

just because it works for you does not make it unstable on other systems. and this also depends what you have running.

It is a fact Windows 98, 98SE, and WinME is an unstable platform.
