Burning: Unexpected error reading file cache
« on: May 26, 2002, 11:38:21 am »

Can burn audio files OK but here's what happens when I try to burn MP3 files onto a data disc. The problem shows up when in the test mode.

Playlist consists of 132 mp3 files and with generic checked or unchecked the same thing happens. All is going along fine and then stops with the following message:

Error: Unexpected failure reading file cache
File/disc read error encountered.

This last time for example I was trying to burn 132 files using little more than 1/2 of the available disc space and at file 60, the above message appeared. This problem has been with me throughout version MJ 8 and its many builds. I have tested with several different playlists in case I had been running into defective MP3 files. They all play OK

Can anyone offer any help in resolving this problem? If, so - thanks very much. System info below.

Thanks King. But this happens whether I have the generic driver checked or not.

About upgrading the ASPI - How would I do that?

Thanks, King, for the links. I read it all and put to use all that I could. Found I had the aspi driver, but in case it had become defective, I downloaded and reinstalled again. Ran Aspichk and got message that all was correct.

One thing that I think may be the problem is that these instructions talked about setting the cache size in CD Writer settings. I've looked in the CD Writer settings and checked the help files but can find no place where I can set these. Since the error message I get is to do with failure to read the cache, this looks like a possible reason for failure.

After checking all but this cache size I tried a test burn (without actually writing to the disc). Set speed to 1 X, and after part way through the test the same old error came up.

So now I wonder if you can shed any light on this changing the cache size in CD Writer settings. I haven't found how to do that.

Appreciate your help!!

Try burning a single file.  Maybe one of the files isn't there.

Try taking it out of test mode.

Thanks, JimH. I can burn several files at a time but if I try to burn too many, like perhaps 50 or more, that's when the errors start. I would like to be able to put around 170 to 180 mp3 files onto a data disk that would play in my newly purchased Sony DVD/MP3 player. I can do it in MusicMatch but lose the benefit of having the files put into album folders.

Thanks for any suggestions.

King Sparta gave me three links to info which I followed on all but the following item which I wrote in a message to King.

That item said to set the cache size to Auto or 2000. Anything higher might cause performance problems. Can you tell me how to set this in MJ? I can't find anything about it in the burn settings or in the help files for MJ.

Version 7.2 allowed you to select a buffer limit.
