Just a quick note, once you get your media set up (tagged) in MC you don't really need to know too much about where they are stored in your file system. MC relies on it's internal database for navigation purposes. Just keep that in mind as you play around with the software.
True, but it's not necessary to abandon a well-organized file structure in favour of database values either. A view's categories can be based directly on those folder values. The most straightforward way to do that is with a File path-type category. For more flexibility, use an Expression-type category to extract the desired values from the pathname. The file path can also be used in the
Rules for file display to restrict the files included in a view to those of a particular folder. To illustrate, either method could be used for something to accommodate the kids. The first so there would be a "Kid's Movies" category to select to view those. The second to create a separate view for "Kid's Video" that includes the "Kids Movies" folder, a selection of kid's TV Series and other video files considered suitable for kids.
I plan on playing with the software tomorrow more, I ran out of time today. I just thought it would be easy to add a subcategory to the Video menu. Further investigation required!
It is easy, after some experimentation with the configuration
(Options>Theater View). I haven't attempted to explain in detail how to do these things, so please ask if you run into trouble.
