Problems with CDDB access
« on: May 24, 2002, 06:25:22 am »

Hi OK well I just DL'ed 7.2 the 8.0 upgrade along with the ape plug in and the Album view plug in...

I installed 7.2 and set up a CDDB account then probably should have had a go then but being foolhardy went ahead and installed everything else too...

When I go to Rip an album via the 8.0 I get no alblum / artist info back... I also get no cover art...

Spent half an hour playing around (BTW in 8.0 when I press the CDDB registration button under setting all I get is a 'bong' noise !!)... So I have reverted back to 7.2 to attempt to get this happening...

In 7.2 I still get no album info returned (btw on DSL no proxy) and when I go to the Settings -> Options -> CD.. CDDB checkbox and press the Settings -> Registration button I now get a screen with my username and when I put my PW in it give a 'passed command not in local datastore' error (plus a chime )...

So it does not seem to matter if its 8 or 7 niether are getting through to CDDB...

Any ideas

BTW that error is 'passed query not in local datastore'... Also this gives same message no matter if I use real or false PW or change UN etc

PP,
Go with 8.0 now.  Much more stable in general.

For things to work, you must have installed the full version of 8.0 at least once.  It's a 9MB download.

We expect to post a new version this morning, so please wait for it.  I think it will be 8.0.281.

CDDB and cover art are two different problems.  If you can start a thread on each problem that will help.  Cover art could be just unavailable for your album.

OK I uninstalled as I was unsure how 'beta' the 8.0 was...

Could this have anything to do with the fact I am as yet not a paid up member ?

I will leave the cover art angle for now but basically any CDDB calls seem to be failing for me...

Will also wait till the next RC is posted (I assume you will post here)...

Yes, it will be posted here.

Paid or not won't matter for cddb.

Good.  I don't think it was a fix.  I think it was the fact that you may never have installed the full 9MB version.

Your seeing us at our most frazzled right now because we've made a lot of changes and we're trying to corral everything enough to ship.  We're inches away.

Have you checked the full screen stuff?  Playing video, double click on the image.

The slideshow plugin is pretty cool too.  Displays images on your hard drive or from a web search for the artist name.  Art Pepper returns the saxaphonist and an occasional vegetable.

Dscaler support was done but hasn't been tested.  It's in a plugin.  Let me know if you want to test.
