Problems when upgrading
« on: May 24, 2002, 12:42:58 am »

I'm reposting this problem because I had no answer and also because it seems related to the problem of RarSFX data (about 18 mb) being left in the windows TEMP directory (posted by Zrocker, if I remember well).

>While the full download installs smoothly, the upgrades request a reboot, then stop until a "DDE server not responding" message appears, and a forced termination of the operation is necessary to go on with the reboot and the completion of the installation.
Is this normal? Can it be related to the fact that my trial period is ended? (I'm waiting for the release version to buy the license).

All the upgrades that I've installed caused that problem, and everytime the RarSFX was left in the TEMP.

I don't know what the DDE server is, but the problem is occurring on every upgrade.
Thanks for help

I don't think the license has anything to do with this.  It is also probably not a Media Jukebox problem.  I suspect it is something about Windows configuration.  Try a search for DDE on google.

Here's an example of what you will find:

Also, error messages are often wrong themselves.  I think it's because they are really hard to debug.

Did you try cleaning out your temp folder?

I can say since I stopped using the Express option during the install (clicked Custom instead) those leftover RarSFXn sub-dir in TEMP never happen now (as of the last two releases I installed).

Yes, Jim, I've cleaned up my temp directory: I do it regularly.
I'll try to upgrade in 'express' mode: I've not done it until now because I like to have control on file associations.I must say however that a full download always installs smoothly, even if not 'express!
