Invalid Package File
« on: May 23, 2002, 01:45:20 pm »

Hi all,

I'm new to Media Jukebox and have only downloaded the software today (version 8).

I'm really impressed with what I have seen so far and am on the verge of buying the product.

But - when I try and select an MP3 encoder it says it needs to download from the internet.  But when it downloads it then says 'Invalid Package File - Cannot Continue'.

I don't understand what I am doing wrong ?  I've tried reinstalling the software but it still shows this error.

Is the reason it won't let me do this because I'm running the trial version of the software ?

PLEASE HELP!

Thanks,

Mark

Hello Mark,

If you can run MJ8 you should be able to download and install the mp3
encoder just fine. In case you can't, try downloading directly from
the encoder plugin page \http:://www.musicex.com/cgi-bin/downloads/plugins.pl?type=7

Also can you give some details on your OS and platform

I've had this exact same problem on my PC at work. And the only way I've found to fix it is to uninstall MJ, then clean all JRiver entries out of my registry, then reinstall. I don't know what causes it, but it happens often on my work PC. I've never (or at the most - very rarely) experienced this at home.

Hi Guys,

Thanks for trying to help with this.

I've just tried to download the MP3 encoder again and it still isn't working.  It doesn't work directly from MJ or if I manually go to the web page and download.  In fact I cannot download any of the encoder plugins.  They all display the error 'Invalid Package File'.

The only encoder that does work is the 'Windows Media' encoder.  This seemed to work straight away and didn't need to go to the internet to download.

The weird thing is that I've just tried this on one of my other PC's and it worked first time.  The problem is that I need it to work on this PC.

I'm running WindowsXP Professional on both PC's.  My version of Media Jukebox is 8.0.280.  As mentioned I'm currently running the trial version of the software (for now).

One of you mentioned the only way to resolve this issue is to delete the keys in the registry.  But can you advise how I know which Keys to delete.

As one of my PC's downloaded and installed the encoder correctly.  Would it be possible for me to manually copy the files to the other PC ??  and if it is which files do I copy...

Thanks for any help you (or anyone else) can provide.

Cheers,

Mark

what mp3 encoder did you try to download?

for version 8
MP3 Encoder - v.2.0.48

for version 7
LAME mp3 Encoder - v.1.0.19
GoGo MP3 Encoder - v.1.0.4
DM MP3 Encoder - v.1.0.1

are you using Microsoft Internet Explorer?

I selected the '2.0.48' version of the encoder.

As mentioned - it appears to work on one of my PC's but not the other.

The problem is that the decent PC is the one that doesn't work !

I can't be the only person with this problem surely ....

Thanks, Mark

P.S. Even with this problem I've just purchased this product !  I can't believe even my TV works through it

Mark,
Thank you for your faith in Media Jukebox!  Isn't it time for bed?

I'll give you the quick instructions.  I think you will understand.

You can search here and probably find better instructions.

Make sure you get an encoder for the version of MJ that you have.

Right clicking on a link on our web page will let you save files where you want.

You need to get the mjp file and the encoder itself and edit it with notepad.

Good luck.

WHAAAAAAAA  IT WORKS !

Hi all,

Since my last message I have tried to download a number of plugins and all of them are showing the 'invalid package file' error.

So I thought I would have Internet Explorer delete it's temporary internet folder.  Once it had done this I tried again and everything now works correctly (yipee!).

I don't know why I had this issue - but at least if anyone else gets this problem in the future they will know how to resolve it !

Thanks to all of you for your help...

Time to play with the application I think (sleeping can wait !)

Cheers,

Mark

Hm... I'll have to try that at work. It's a hell of a lot easier than manually cleaning out the registry. Next Page
