Upgrading MC16 to MC17
CountryBumkin:
Should MC17 be installed over MC16 (like doing a MC16 version upgrade), or should MC16 be unistalled first?
jmone:
MC17 is a separate install but will migrate Libraries and Settings from the MC16 install automatically (with the exception of any Theaterview Views - you will need to manually set these up again). So the order I found best was:
- Download and Install MC17
- Check it is all OK, tweak any other settings
- Uninstall MC16 (you want to do this or you do get some bits fighting for control eg Windows Explorer integration etc).
Alex B:
Just install MC17. You don't need to uninstall MC16. In any case do not specify the MC16 install location if you want install MC17 to a custom location.
MC17 will copy the currently active MC16 library and most of the configured MC16 options. Some features may have changed fundamentally and thus have different or incompatible settings in MC17 (as jmone said, Theater View is one of those).
You can uninstall MC16 anytime, but I would recommend keeping it for a while.
EDIT
Before uninstalling MC16 you should back up anything you want to preserve from C:\Documents and Settings\[user]\Application Data\J River\Media Center 16\ (XP) or C:\Users\[user]\Appdata\Roaming\J River\Media Center 16\ (Vista or newer), e.g. cover art or library backup files.

I found I kept running MC16 unexpectedly. So I've now uninstalled MC16 Completely on all PC's with the exception of my Main where during the MC16 uninstall I choose to leave the libraries etc. So it should be a simple reinstall of MC16 if I need it as it data is still there.

Since this requires a new license where are the upgrade prices and where is the link to order the upgrade license purchase?
