CDDB
« on: May 22, 2002, 08:30:55 pm »

My system:
athalon xp1700, 512mb ram 40gig HD, 160gig HD, CDRW, DVDrom, Win2k - pretty kickass.

I have been trying to use CDDB with MJ, and yes I keep getting a
"CDDB: malformed message sent from server to client 82fa001c" error
and yes I am using Norton Personal firewall.
and yes I have been looking through all of the forums for both MJ and NPF2002

But, I also have Musicmatch jukebox (silly me bought it and then found media jukebox, victm of timing). Musicmatch seems quite happy to get the CDDB info on any CD with or without norton personal firewall, which makes me think that the error code abouve is acutally to do with the login field in the CDDB setup.

Its a real shame that this problem keeps arising, and it is random, i.e. if I retry the CDDB lookup a few times, it gets it, other times it wont at all and other times it wont even appear.

I have just over 400 CD's and i am gradually turning the m all into MP3s for storage reasons, but I have to use musicmatch to do so.

HELP!!!!!!!! Save me from musicmatch

I just had a similar problem today (MJ 8.0.279). I believe the reason for this was not a problem with MJ but some kind of copy protection of the CD.

MJ reported a CD with 10 tracks, 9 tracks had zero length, last one was about 42 minutes, and returned with a "CDDB: malformed message"-error . My CD-ROM wasn't able to read any other disks after this one (no matter whether music or data).

Only solution was to reboot my machine and keep the CD away from my computer.
