Analog TV Tuner and Video Capture (Windows only)
All WDM devices are supported. Some may work better than others.
Digital TV (bda devices) (Windows only, but starting with Media Center 30, Mac and Linux clients can use these devices via a Windows server)
ATSC has been supported since Media Center 11.
Clear QAM was added in Media Center 17.
DVB-T has been supported since Media Center 12.
DVB-T2, DVB-S/S2, DVB-C/C2 (no encrypted channels yet) were added in MC17.
Digital Cable with CableCARD (Windows, Mac, and Linux)
Copy-free channels only. Supported on Windows since Media Center 18. Support on Mac and Linux was added since Media Center 28.
Sat>IP (Windows, Mac, and Linux)
Supported since Media Center 21. Support on Mac and Linux was added since Media Center 28. Channels can be set up in one of these three methods:
- Server-provided M3U file.
- User-provided M3U file.
- Scanning for channels directly from the transport streams, either using static channel info file, or using Network Information Table.
DMS Tuners (Windows, Mac, and Linux)
Supported in Media Center 26. Currently only HDHomeRun (Prime, Connect, Extend, and Flex 4K) and a couple of other devices are supported (white listed). Other devices may be added as we learn about them.
The support of these devices is intended for TV playback on Linux and Mac operating systems, but it also works on Windows (though it would be better to just use ATSC/DVB or OpenCABLE versions of the devices). EPG is supported through either Perc Data, XMLTV, or HDHomeRun options.
Support for these devices is being revamped for Media Center 27 primarily for Mac and Linux. Time-shifting and recording are supported.
IPTV (Windows, Mac, and Linux)
IPTV channels are not provided by actually physical "tuners", but they are supported in Media Center in the same way as other types of TV tuners.
