showing external subtitles
« on: October 18, 2011, 08:11:44 pm »

How do I get external srt subtitles to show? Right clicking on the screen shows subtitles to be disabled, but I can't find where to turn this option on. The srt file is located in the same folder that contains the video files(vob, ifo, etc.).

Double-check the subtitle naming to make sure it's next to the video and has the same filename.

Thanks, Matt

I read those threads before I posted, as well as doing a search for additional threads relating to external subtitles, however, nothing seemed  to aply to my particular problem. Maybe the answer was there, but I was too unknowledgeable to recognize it.

The srt file is titled the same as the video file (I did a copy and paste) and is in the VIDEO_TS folder. So, this is what I have: Title\VIDEO_TS\Title.srt. I really don't know what I am looking for, other than a check box to enable subtitles. Is there more to deal with?

What I do know is that I get subtitles to show using VLC Media Player, which I don't like.

Any help is appreciated.

I haven't tested external subtitles with a ripped DVD.  Let me follow-up tomorrow after doing some testing.

Thanks.

It looks like sidecar subtitles aren't currently supported with DVD.  This is because DVD uses a custom subtitle system that funnels through the DVD Navigator filter.

I'm looking into allowing both the DVD Navigator and the external subtitle engines to coexist.

Media Center 17 adds support for sidecar subtitles for DVD.  I don't think the feature will be ported back to v16.
