Read v16 library from server with a v17 client?

Can my v17 client connect to and load the library on my v16 server without affecting files in anyway?
And what if I make changes to a few files and then sync back to the server?

v16 and v17 can't be mixed.

v17 uses a new, more efficient library format that v16 doesn't understand.

Can 17 restore from a 16 backup?
or How do I keep 17 in sync with my 16 production library until I completely switch to 17 in the future?

Yes MC17 can restore a backup from MC16.
