MC17 hangs on install (Win 7 64)
« on: November 05, 2011, 04:51:30 pm »

As requested starting a separate thread as i just cant get around this issue.

I have previously installed MC15 and 16 on this computer and it worked flawlessly.

For MC17 it immediately hangs once clicked to express install. I eventually have to kill the process in task mgr.
I have rebooted PC several times, ran install exe as administrator but to no avail. I have administrator rights so dont think it is a UAC issue. I have also run a registry cleaner on OS to check for corruption but was ok

Try running the installer with the /NoUpgrade switch (you need to use a command line window or right-click properties on the installer and enter the command line switch).

If it works, you can manually restore a v16 backup into v17.

Let us know if that helps.

I was determined to try and figure out how to apply that possible solution and even tried googling it but I cant figure out where to enter that command line switch. I right click on properties and theres just the usual tabs and nowhere can i see a place to enter a command line instruction. Thanks anyway but sorry to say its beyond my knowledge.

Any chance of a quick step by step instruction for dummies ?

One easy way is to open the folder you saved the installer to.

In the address bar at the top of the window click on an empty area to the right of the path.
The path will change in my case to E:\Downloads\Audio\Players\MediaCenter\17, yours will obviously be something different.
At the end of this path add \mediacenter170027.exe /NoUpgrade
It should then look like mine in the pic below, obviously with your own path though.
Hit enter and it should work.

URL removed, bad site.

I had written a small script a while back for running files with command line. All you have to do is drag and drop the file you want to run with a command line onto the RunWithCommandLine.vbs icon and it will open a dialog window to allow you to enter your commands. It easier and faster than opening a command prompt window. I keep it on my desktop for easy access.

Just enter this code into a text file and save it with any name you like but give it the .vbs extension.
Code: [Select]
Select Case WScript.Arguments.Count
Case 0
WScript.Quit
Case 1
Set args = WScript.Arguments
FileToRun = args.Item(0)
Case Else
WScript.Quit
End Select

Set objShell=WScript.CreateObject("WScript.Shell")

PassArgs = inputbox("Enter the arguments to pass:")
If PassArgs = vbEmpty Then WScript.Quit

objShell.run chr(34) & FileToRun & chr(34) & " " & PassArgs

Set objShell = Nothing

Or you can download the file here. Just unzip it to your desktop. URL removed, bad site.
