Help needed identifying a file format
« on: May 21, 2002, 05:54:16 am »

Hi guys,

I have a few files that are really starting to annoy me...

I've no idea what format they are... yet MJ still plays them...! I want to convert them to mp3.

Can ya help at all?

An example file is available at http://www.gotworms.co.uk/stuff/identifyme.mpg

Don't be fooled by the file extension... I've tried everything... at one point i thought they might even be MPEG video files with audio tracks only, so I tried several utilities to try and extract the audio track, without success...

Can ya help out at all?

Cheers!

It is an MPEG Layer 1 audio file. Unless you can deal with quality loss, I recommend not converting it (lossy to lossy conversion usually results in bad sound).
