Once possessing the power of MJ8, is there any reason to keep Windows (wimpy) Media Player installed on my computer?

MJ uses the Windows Media Player playback engine for several file types.  Best to keep it.

Zevele

I posted on this problem a couple of days ago.  If you know of a way to prevent WMP from hijacking streaming mp3's and allowing them to open into MJ, I will be most happy!  All file associations point to MJ as the default audio player for all file types.

Do not know, really. But allmost sure i had this problem
Do MJ was the last installed?I mean after the WMP updates if you run ME,200,XP,and afterIE6 if you use it not runing XP
I stream most of the time from mp3.com,but also from other places, and NEVER WMP opens
I stream mp3.com with FreeAmp ,cause you get name of artist and song when streaming
But i know what with 7.2 i had a problem, the setting for streaming in MJ did 'blow out" quite often
You need to go inside Explorer. It is late for me now-one o'clock am-
But i will have a look tomorrow. In the main time can you try to stream from mp3.com and let me know if WMP opens
Wich Windows do you have?

Shelly

You need to have M3U and Pls cases check in Media Juke box
But first you have to uncheck the same fonctions in Windows player
At this time i have only Windows player 6,not 7 so i cannot tell you if you will find the same denominations in Windows player. But ,it will state the format -mp3- or the fonction-playlist-
After you unckeck it in WP,be sure to check them in MJ

If you still have the same problem:

Open Windows Explorer[start=accessories=window explorer]
In windows explorer, under tools, chose folder option=go to file types
When you have the file types listed, search for M3U
click on it=click on change=chose MJ
Do the same with Pls

Close Windows Explorer.open MJ and check the 2 cases M3U and Pls
Now you must have MJ opening, not WMP

If you still have the same problem, let me know there is another advanced way

I am sure you would like to change anything to MJ when in File Types. Not a good idea,i did a big mess doing it....Just change this 2 settings

Hope it will do

zevele,  thanks for the suggestions.  Actually I'd done all of the things you've mentioned.  I've also changed every logical setting in IE to no avail.  I guess this is one of the trade offs for having xp.

Sorry it is not working
You may try to put a new post, telling the problem and what you did allready
There is another way clicking on advanced. But better to ask.I am on ME,IE 5 and WMP6 so not sure for you with XP
Do not care if you had post before about it.Just post a new one

>>>>>>>Is there a reason to keep windows media player installed?

Using it periodically will keep you reminded of 1) how great MJ is, and 2)why monopolies are a really, really bad thing.

I tried www.mp3.com last week to check out some bands that Zevele10 (my evil twin) recommended, and had the same problem--couldn't resolve it, but't didn't intend to keep visiting the site, so I ignored it. Wonder whether this is in the bug thread.
