Control Cover Art

I have just installed MC16 for the very first time and imported all my music. My music collection consists mainly of singles so I have been embedding my own cover art because ALL look -up services are woefully useless at finding cover art for singles. The cover art shown in iTunes was perfect but there were cases where no cover art showed because I hadn't embedded anything yet. When I look at the cover art in MC16 its all over the place. Music that previously had no cover art now has a random cover that is not correct. so.....
Is it possible to stop this universal obsession with albums - I want to choose the cover art myself?
Is it possible to prevent MC16 changing anything with tags and cover art unless I tell it to do so - period?
How can I remove the random cover art that MC16 has added to tracks that previously had none? What a crazy feature!!

You can tell MC not to get cover art and you can tell it not to store tags in the files. Both are in the options.
You can remove cover art in the tag window. Right click on the image.
