One hit wonder smartlist
« on: December 01, 2011, 11:52:26 am »

Hi everyone,

I've got a collection of all songs that've been in the Top 40 which resides under the playlist 'Top 40' (yeah, I know... how did I make up this name?)
Anyway: now I want to make a smartlist which shows only the songs that were the only hits of the artist involved. The so called One Hit Wonders. It has to be the combination of artist and song.
I'm pretty sure one of the smartlist-geeks ;-) around here can help me. I do hope so, at least.

Next playlist will be the so called 'Two Hit Wonders', but I guess I'll be able to make that myself, using the one hit smartlist as an example.

Thanks for your help!

Thanks for the link to that thread.

I track chart position and time in charts in my library so was able to use this data to refine the concept of "one hit wonder" proposed in the other thread a little futher.  Makes for an interesting playlist!

Thanks for the link - it does the trick quite well!

However, now I'm stuck with the co-productions. Like: David Guetta & Akon, David Guetta & Estell, David Guetta & Chris Willis etc.
In this case: David Guetta is to me not a one hit wonder, but because of all these co-productions the smartlist considers him as one.

Probably a real tough one to make, but... Is there a way to rule out such combination-artists too?

The existence of an '&' in [Artist] probably does not uniquely indicate a 'co-producer'. It occurs often in the proper name of artists (e.g., Blood, Sweat & Tears, Bob Marley & The Wailers...). Consider isolating 'co-producers' (or 'featuring'?) in a separate field.

Well, actually this is quite in the right direction. I think I give it a go!
So probably it will be in the smartlist something like 'if artist contains '&' then exclude'.
