MC now has Audio Path
It summaries all DSP going on.
Nothing wrong with that.

I don’t like the way it is implemented.
The DSP Icon in the progress bar is a nice short cut to DSP studio (use it often)
Now you get the Audio Path on hover and you have to move back the cursor to one of the buttons to get to the DSP studio.

I do think this option is nice but the way it is implemented too dominant for what is a summary of ones settings only.

The button to open DSP Studio is still available. It's at the top of the audio path popup.

By the way, you don't have to click to open the Audio Path popup, just put your mouse over the button.

I know.
On hover the dialog pops up.
What I prefer:
- left click on the DSP icon and DSP opens
- right click on the DSP icon and you get a menu including the option to select Audio Path

Left click on the DSP icon has shown a menu for years.

FWIW, I really like the new button. It isn't a DSP button anymore. It is the Audio Path button. To me, this is better because it can take you to all of the audio-playback related settings, including the DSP, rather than just the limited subset the DSP button did before. That makes more sense for a button that gets as "high-visibility" of a position on the UI as the Audio Path button does.

One place to go for all of your settings.

I'm a big fan of your website, and in fact it was your site which pointed me in the direction of JRiver in the first place...however...I voted against you here! I actually love the "geek appeal" of being able to just hover the mouse over the button and see the audio path, I think I will use this frequently to quickly check and double check DSP and audio path settings. I've often forgotten to set up all the audio settings as I like when I create additional Zones for DSP, and having this available and easy to see with just a cursor motion is great.

Off post, many thanks for your extensive posts and webpages on tagging and organizing classical music, it is a fantastic resource for those of us with 1000+ classical albums to sort.

I do like the option.
It is convenient to have a summary of all the settings.
But I do think it a bit to prominent in the interface.
Obvious I’m one of the few feeling this way.

Hovering makes Audio Path visible.
Right click opens a menu.
Left click does nothing. Why not make left click open DSP, since it's available and doing nothing at the moment? Everything else would be exactly as it is now, no compromise would have to be made.

It was a bug that right-click still showed a menu over the top of the popup.

Hooking left-click to something different than showing the dialog would be confusing. Only some users will know not to click. Auto show/hide menus should work equally well if you click or don't click.

How about hooking up DSP and Audio Path to keyboard shortcuts? Ctrl+something? That would provide easy access across all views, and way, way, WAY easier than fiddling with a mouse or keypad.

You can get to the audio path using: Alt+p+u

Most other commands are also available using Alt-based shortcuts.

Right, because such sequences are standard Windows Alt menu-navigation/accelerator keys and are readily discoverable by holding down the Alt key, and taking note of the underlined letter in the menus.

I updated Keyboard Hot-keys with a little introductory text, indicating that Media Center has its own hot-keys and that Windows Alt-accelerator keys are available. Also made the headers easier to read.

You're welcome. I just added a bunch of missing Shortcuts, and updated those that have changed since the original document was created.

I discovered what might be a bug. Alt-8 does not expand the Drives & Devices sub-tree like other Alt-# commands expand their sub-trees.

If anyone sees other missing items, let me know and I'll update the page. I know the 4 arrow keys are missing...

Perhaps these shortcut-related posts should be split into a Shortcuts thread?
