Author Topic: WASAPI / Windows 7- playback switches to speakers from headphones?  (Read 3136 times)

I'm running MC version 16.0.181 on Windows 7 on a Dell Lattitude.

I recently changed my  output to WASAPI from ASIO. What happens now is when I am playing music through MC and have my headphones plugged in, when another application plays a sound (say the 'click' when navigating to a webpage), the sound plays in the headphones and the music changes from my headphones to the speakers on my laptop.

Any ideas on how to fix this?

Have you checked "Open device for exclusive access" in Ouput Mode settings?

Yes, I have that checked, but it still occurs.

Does picking a specific output line in the WASAPI options of Media Center help (as opposed to just 'Default sound device' or similar)?

Hi Matt,

Yes, I have Speakers / Headphones (IDT High Definition Audio CODEC) selected.

It's interesting that both lines (speakers and headphones) are the same output.

It's a mystery to me how the driver decides where to route the sound.

You could just try all the different audio outputs and see if any do better.  Updating sound card drivers might help too.

Sorry to not have a better answer.
